Victoria was born on May 24 1819, to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn and Princess Victoria Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. She succeeded her uncle, William IV as the monarch of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Empress of India on June 20 1837 (monarchy) and on May 1 1836 (as empress of India). In 1840, she married her first cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. They had nine children together. One of them was Edward VII, who would later become king. Both her mother and husband died in 1861. Victoria started her widowhood. In fact, she was the last monarch of Great Britain in the House of Hanover. She reigned the country for 63 years and 7 months. She is also known as the great-great- grandmother of Elizabeth II. On January 22 1901, Victoria died.
